To judge the water level the lower part of the wooden jetty must be touching the water for the river to be at a decent height. However the river can be run all year round even in the lowest of conditions. The river is high when the water is level with the bottom jetty and very high when the lower and top jetty are covered. However if you are very keen, it is Ultra high when the field opposite the jetty is totally covered with a few feet or more of water. You really need to be keen to run all the weirs at this height.
The first weir you will encounter is a slide weir with a main shoot on river Left. This weir can be very sticky in high water even for some of the more advanced people. Playboater's can tail squirt, loop and cartwheel in the shoot. Splats and splat wheels are easy on this weir in nearly all conditions. You can walk round the weir in higher water levels if needed on the river Left bank. The next weir is really an old broken weir, which, in high water is shot usually in the middle or on river Right. In lower water the middle is usually the preferred route. An eddy above can be used for inspection of the weir. This weir should not pose any problem to even the most timid paddler.
The next weir is about 1km further downstream. This is EEL weir. This is the biggest weir on this section of river and can give people a good beating in higher water levels especially if you like trying to cartwheel in it. The weir can be portaged just above it on river Left in low water conditions. However you will know it is very high if you can hear the weir about 250m away upstream. If you hear this portage on river Left up the bank and walk across to the picnic area, which makes a nice place for lunch just overlooking the weir itself. From here you can relauch to run the weir or walk back up to the portage area to get a run up from there. If it is very high then bank support is advised with the more competent members in the water above giving lines and below giving cover for swimmers.
On down those who have had a bad swim can have a relaxing time paddling for about 4 ¾Km. Yee Haa I think not. However it is good training for beginners to keep their boat tracking in a straight line. The last part of the trip can be concluded by running the out of date slalom course, which is soon to be updated. You can portage well before this above the public bridge at the wooden jetty on river Left and get changed at the car park.

Note:
Please don't pull other peoples towels off here as this car park is used by at least 100 or so others users with kids and the sight of a naked canoeist with just his helmet on may scar the poor child and their parents for life as well as those canoeists associated with them.
